When I reached university, things got harder.

Unlike the locals, I wasn’t covered by government sponsorships.

So my dad had to leave the country — and our family —

to earn foreign income so I could study aircraft engineering.

I remember feeling guilty about it.

That guilt became my fuel.

I promised to do the best that I can to not waste a dime.

After graduation, I had to make the same hard choice.

I left my family too — to work as an aircraft mechanic overseas.

It was miserable.

Sometimes I’d work six hours overtime just to make a little extra.

I thought that was freedom — until I realized it wasn’t.

Every day, I’d look around the airfield and think,

“If I don’t move up, this is my life forever.”

Taking orders from engineers younger than me —

it burned, but it also woke me up.
